Sudan Army: Drone Attacks by Rapid Support Forces on Residential Areas in Blue Nile State

The Sudan Army announced that drone attacks by the Rapid Support Forces on residential areas and civilian facilities in the city of Damazin have caused damage.

The Sudan Army announced on Tuesday that drone attacks by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have targeted residential areas and civilian facilities in Damazin, the capital of Blue Nile State in southeastern Sudan.

Damage from Drone Attacks

In a statement released by the 4th Infantry Division of the army, Major General Ismail Al-Tayeb Hussein, the commander of this division, visited the affected areas and assessed the damage to civilian facilities and various locations in the city. According to the report, the Rapid Support Forces have attacked populated areas, and Major General Hussein emphasized that the army is strengthening security measures to protect civilians and vital facilities in this city.

Continuation of Clashes and Attacks

Meanwhile, the RSF militia has not yet responded to this statement. Military sources had previously reported that the army's air defense systems successfully destroyed RSF drones targeting Damazin on Monday evening. These new attacks come two days after the army announced that it had shot down an RSF drone that had entered Blue Nile State from the Ethiopian border.

The army also recently reported the capture of the strategic area of Jebel Kadam in Blue Nile and stated that the attack by RSF and its ally, the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), was thwarted. Blue Nile State, bordering Ethiopia and South Sudan, contains important routes for troop movements and supply of necessary materials.

Fighting between the army and the RSF has been ongoing since April 2023 following disagreements over the integration of this militia group. According to estimates from the United Nations and international sources, these clashes have resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands and the displacement of about 13 million people.
