The Indonesian National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) announced that after the sinking of the Virgo Transport 8 ship in the Java Sea, 128 people are still missing. The ship sank in the early hours of Sunday in waters near the southern strait, in South Kalimantan. The number of survivors has reached 109, and six people have been confirmed dead.
Details of the shipwreck
The Virgo Transport 8 ship, which had 243 passengers including travelers and crew, sank near Masalembu Island. According to published reports, 115 of the ship's passengers were rescued by the rescue forces. The search and rescue operation is still ongoing, and Basarnas and other Indonesian agencies are working to find the missing individuals.

Status of survivors and relief efforts
South Kalimantan officials are planning to return the survivors to their homes, provided they are medically and psychologically fit to travel. Mohdhin, the governor of South Kalimantan, said: "After questioning the survivors, most of them indicated that they want to return home as soon as possible." Additionally, officials are assisting survivors who have lost their identification documents to obtain the necessary police certificates for purchasing airline tickets.
Fifteen survivors are being treated in various hospitals in Banjarmasin, including six at the regional public hospital, seven at the Bahriankara Hospital, and two at the Sultan Suryan Shah Hospital. Furthermore, 59 other passengers who are in good health have been temporarily accommodated in places provided by the provincial government.
The search and rescue operation for those who are still unaccounted for continues. Local authorities and the navy are working to find the survivors and missing individuals, and have allocated additional resources to this operation in hopes of locating them.
