Ahmed Omran, Deputy Minister of Housing and Public Utilities of Egypt, representing Randa al-Menshawy, Minister of Housing and Public Utilities, inaugurated the second Arab-African exhibition and conference on investment in water and energy in Cairo on Monday, September 14, 2026. This event will take place from September 14 to 16 under the title "Sustainable Water - Renewable Energy - Promising Investment."
Exhibition Objective
This exhibition, which brings together government agencies, private sector companies, and research institutions in the field of drinking water and wastewater services, is part of the Ministry of Housing's efforts to localize the industry and expand cooperation with Egyptian and international companies.

National Water and Wastewater Strategy
Ahmed Omran announced at the ceremony that Egypt considers drinking water a security issue and has strengthened the legal and institutional framework of this sector to establish a balance between service quality, sustainability, and social justice. He referred to the national strategy for the water and wastewater sector and the establishment of a public-private partnership (PPP) unit for project procurement and attracting investment, especially in the fields of desalination, water reuse, and related industries.
He added that the coverage of drinking water nationwide reached 99% in 2026, and the actual production capacity of water has reached 31.7 million cubic meters per day. Additionally, urban and rural wastewater coverage has reached 70%.
Support for Domestic Production
Omran also noted that the capacity for seawater desalination has reached nearly 2.1 million cubic meters per day, and the country has 621 wastewater treatment facilities with a combined capacity of 19 million cubic meters per day. He emphasized the government's support for domestic production, especially in the field of electromechanical equipment used in water and wastewater facilities, and urged Egyptian, Arab, and African investors to seek cooperation in the fields of desalination, wastewater treatment, and water reuse.
Furthermore, he met with diplomats and representatives of Arab, African, and international businesses to discuss cooperation, knowledge exchange, and opportunities to benefit from Egypt's experience in developing water infrastructure projects.
