Germany witnessed an improvement in economic sentiment in September 2023. According to the results of official surveys, the ZEW economic sentiment index increased by 0.5 points to positive 34.7. This increase indicates stability in economic expectations in the country.
Improvement in Current Economic Situation
The assessment of the current economic situation in Germany this month showed a significant improvement, rising 14 points from August to negative 47.1. This positive change indicates an improvement in economic conditions in Germany and an increase in confidence among investors and economic analysts.

Highlights from the Surveys
Achim Wambach, President of ZEW, stated that financial experts are cautiously optimistic about economic improvement, which may be due to financial measures and increased exports. However, Wambach warned that high energy prices, exacerbated by the ongoing war in Iran and uncertainty from hybrid attacks, remain a serious threat to the German economy.
The performance of various economic sectors this month presented a diverse picture. In the insurance sector, the increase in interest rates has benefited this sector, recording a rise of 12.1 points to reach 46.4 points. Additionally, the banking industry also saw a significant increase of 8.2 points, reaching 52.9 points.
Challenges in Industrial Sectors
In contrast, the steel and metals industries, as well as the automotive sector, remained in negative territory. These two sectors scored negative 16.7 and negative 22.6, respectively, indicating serious challenges in these industries.
Meanwhile, economic expectations for the Eurozone also decreased by 5.6 points compared to last month, reaching 25.8. In contrast, the status index for the Eurozone in September 2023 increased by 7.6 points to negative 13.9.
These changes in economic sentiment and the current situation indicate significant developments in the economies of Germany and the Eurozone, which could have widespread implications for the economic future of these countries.
