Yemeni forces targeted three Houthi drones in Taiz and Shabwa

Yemeni government forces announced that they have shot down three Houthi drones in the provinces of Taiz and Shabwa. This comes as fighter jets bombed the positions of this group in Taiz.

Yemeni government forces announced on Monday that they succeeded in shooting down three Houthi drones in the provinces of Taiz and Shabwa. This operation coincided with the bombing of Houthi military positions in western Taiz.

Details of the drone shootdowns

According to reports, military units affiliated with the government, known as the Giant Brigades, stated that a Houthi drone was shot down in the Khabab front near Bab al-Mandab. Additionally, two other attacking drones of the first-person view (FPV) type were stopped in the Bayhan area before reaching their targets.

Aerial bombings and potential casualties

Following this event, the September Net news site, which is controlled by the Yemeni army, reported that aerial bombings targeted Houthi positions, gatherings, and vehicles around Mawkhah and the Al-Abr bridge in western Taiz. These bombings have resulted in significant casualties and damage, intensifying concerns about the humanitarian situation in these areas.

On the other hand, Yahya Saree, the military spokesman for the Houthis, announced that Saudi fighter jets have carried out 54 airstrikes in the provinces of Taiz, Lahij, Al-Jawf, Marib, and Hajjah in the past 24 hours. He added that F-15 and Typhoon fighter jets operating from Saudi airbases in Khamis Mushait and Taif were used in these attacks and threatened retaliation.

Saudi officials have not yet responded to these claims, and the Houthis have also not reacted to the statements of government forces. Tensions between Yemeni government forces and the Houthis have increased since early July, and while the military situation has severely deteriorated, the country has been embroiled in war since 2014.

The war in Yemen began after the Houthis seized the capital Sana'a and several provinces in 2014, and it took on new dimensions in 2015 with the intervention of a Saudi-led Arab coalition in support of the legitimate government.
