OpenAI Seeks to Attract $1.2 Trillion in Investment from Investors

OpenAI has begun initial negotiations with investors to attract a new round of funding that could value the company at over $1.2 trillion. This move comes after the introduction of its new advanced model.

OpenAI has begun initial negotiations with investors to attract a new round of funding that could value the company at over $1.2 trillion. This move comes after the introduction of the company's new advanced model.

Past Funding and IPO Forecast

The company, which is the developer of ChatGPT, assessed its value at $852 billion in March and received $122 billion in its previous funding round from major investors such as Amazon, Nvidia, and SoftBank. If the new funding round goes ahead, this move will take place before the company's initial public offering (IPO), which is expected to occur next year.

Competition and User Growth

OpenAI is in close competition with Anthropic for leadership in the artificial intelligence industry and is facing new challenges as competition increases from low-cost Chinese AI models. Since the last funding round, OpenAI has reported that its active user count has surpassed one billion, with over 200 million businesses using the company's AI models.

The company's AI-based coding tool, Codex, has also seen significant growth. OpenAI recently introduced a new model called Astra, which has been described as the smartest and most coordinated model in the world.

Financial Performance and CEO Statements

OpenAI generated $6.7 billion in revenue in the quarter ending in June, an increase from $5.7 billion in the first quarter. However, the company's operating margin has decreased, delaying predictions that the company would reach profitability before the IPO.

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, stated in an interview this month that the company is unlikely to pursue a public offering this year, citing concerns about AI safety. He remarked, "I really think that given everything happening in the safety space, now is not the right time for an IPO, and we don't feel pressured in that regard."
