The Ukrainian government proposed a halt to attacks on energy infrastructure

Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, proposed a halt to attacks on energy infrastructure and considered it a step towards reducing tensions.

Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, announced that Ukraine and Russia have reached an agreement to stop attacks on each other's energy targets. These statements come amid growing concerns over rising global fuel prices. Zelensky emphasized that this proposal is seen as a step towards reducing tensions.

Zelensky's proposal to halt attacks

Zelensky stated in a statement: "There is now a strong proposal from the United States for a mutual halt to attacks on critical infrastructure." He added: "If this proposal can be the first step in reducing tensions, Ukraine is ready to support this de-escalation." Zelensky also noted that this proposal requires cooperation and support from Ukraine's allies.

Consequences of the war on the fuel market

Meanwhile, the President of Ukraine pointed out that any agreement must be "reliable and long-term" and should not lose credibility after the elections in Russia. Zelensky's remarks came after the President of the United States, Donald Trump, claimed in a social media post that Ukraine and Russia had reached an agreement not to attack each other's energy targets.

On Tuesday, Russia targeted two gas stations in the busy streets of Kyiv, and Ukraine also attacked an oil refinery in Sizran, located in the Samara region of southwestern Russia. Trump has repeatedly expressed concern that Ukraine's attacks on Russian fuel facilities would lead to fuel shortages and that the war in these countries has impacted global oil prices.

The price of diesel in the United States reached over $6 per gallon, marking the first time in the country's history that it has reached this level. This price increase comes as global oil prices have risen to over $108 per barrel, with tensions in the Gulf and attacks on energy infrastructure in the region exacerbating the situation.
