Lee Jae-myung, President of South Korea, announced on Wednesday at the opening of the first Korea-Central Asia Summit in Seoul that the 'Silk Road Spirit' is needed more than ever. He referred to global challenges and the necessity for closer cooperation among different countries during this summit.
The Necessity of Cooperation in a New Global Era
Lee Jae-myung stated in his remarks: 'Today, the world has entered a new era of transformation in which the economy, including supply chains, energy, markets, and technology, as well as security, are closely interdependent.' He added that based on the cooperation established over the past three decades, we must also prepare for the next three decades.

The President of South Korea highlighted the importance of diversifying global supply chains, stating: 'Seoul is striving to diversify supply chains by combining the region's rich mineral and energy resources with its exploration and processing skills.'
Development of Bilateral Cooperation
Lee Jae-myung referred to the extensive cooperation between South Korea and the five Central Asian republics, stating that both sides have benefited from their long-standing relations in trade, investment, infrastructure, education, and culture. He emphasized that joint cooperation can help accelerate mutual prosperity and noted that both sides can achieve common goals more quickly by working together.
Prior to this summit, Lee Jae-myung held bilateral meetings with his five counterparts and signed agreements in various fields, including energy and critical minerals. These agreements demonstrate the strong determination of the participating countries to strengthen cooperation and create new grounds for economic and cultural collaboration.
