India Summons Pakistani Diplomat and Expresses Its Protest

India summoned a Pakistani diplomat and expressed its strong protest due to a maritime incident between the naval forces of the two countries.

On Wednesday, India summoned a Pakistani diplomat following a maritime incident that resulted in a collision between the naval forces of the two countries in international waters. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs stated in a press release that the chargé d'affaires of the Pakistani embassy in New Delhi was summoned and was informed of India's strong protest regarding the unacceptable and unprofessional behavior of Pakistani naval units at sea that led to the collision with an Indian naval unit.

Details of the Maritime Incident

According to reports from Indian media, this incident occurred on the night of Tuesday. Currently, Pakistan has not responded to this statement from New Delhi. The two countries, India and Pakistan, share the waters of the Arabian Sea, and this incident occurred in international waters.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs further explained that this incident did not cause significant damage, but the behavior of the Pakistani naval vessel clearly contradicted Article 10 of the agreement between India and Pakistan. The ministry also advised the Pakistani diplomat to convey to the relevant authorities in Pakistan the need to exercise necessary caution and respect the provisions of the relevant agreements to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.

Diplomatic Implications

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs also announced that the Indian chargé d'affaires in Islamabad has been instructed to register a similar protest with the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This action comes as the two countries commemorated the anniversary of their first border conflict in May this year, which ended with a ceasefire declared by former U.S. President Donald Trump.

The two nuclear-armed countries reduced their diplomatic relations in 2019 following the revocation of the special status of the Jammu and Kashmir region by New Delhi. These developments have raised further concerns in the region, particularly in security and military contexts, and it appears that similar incidents could exacerbate tensions.
