The National Wildlife Center of Saudi Arabia Introduces National Crow Feeding Guide

The National Wildlife Center of Saudi Arabia announced the launch of the first national crow feeding guide with international accreditation. This guide is designed to protect resident and migratory crows.

The National Wildlife Center (NCW) of Saudi Arabia unveiled the first national crow feeding guide with international accreditation on Sunday. This guide is designed to protect resident and migratory crows and also to reduce the risk of poisoning, which is one of the biggest threats to the survival of these birds.

Collaboration with International Organizations

This guide was developed in collaboration with five international organizations and takes into account the best practices and global experiences in the conservation of crows and raptors. It also considers the environmental and logistical conditions of the arid regions of Saudi Arabia.

The guide provides a comprehensive framework for establishing and managing feeding stations, known as "crow restaurants." These stations offer safe and controlled food sources that help reduce crows' exposure to toxins, harmful veterinary drugs, and other pollutants, supporting their survival in natural habitats.

Feeding Stations and Their Impact on Migration

Feeding stations also serve as safe feeding points for migratory crows that pass through Saudi Arabia during their seasonal migration routes. This guide includes the technical and operational requirements for these stations, which encompass site selection, safe food sources, operational procedures, and monitoring and documenting the number and behavior of crows.

These measures help assess the impact of feeding stations and enhance their effectiveness as a conservation tool. Given the increasing risks posed by human activities and climate change, this guide represents an effective step towards the conservation of crow species.

The National Wildlife Center of Saudi Arabia aims to create a sustainable environment for crows and other raptors in the country with this initiative. This action not only helps protect these species but also contributes to maintaining the balance of natural ecosystems.
