Following the war crises in Lebanon, the lives of small and vulnerable creatures are also at risk. One of these creatures is the Syrian rock hyrax, which depends on the fragile and ancient mountainous habitats in border areas. These wars not only bring human and financial losses but also lead to the destruction of natural ecosystems and the annihilation of the habitats of these creatures.
Destruction of Habitats
During the wars, repeated and widespread explosions in southern Lebanon lead to the destruction of villages and towns, and alongside that, the rocky habitats that have hosted hyrax colonies for centuries are also destroyed. The war in these areas has not only a human aspect but also deeper impacts on the environment and the lives of animals.
According to reports, these wars have particularly affected forests and sensitive ecosystems, leading to the extinction of various species and cruelty to wildlife. While public attention is focused on human casualties, environmental damages are seriously overlooked.
Attention to Wildlife
As an environmental activist and head of a non-governmental organization, my colleagues and I have been documenting the effects of war on forests and wildlife in this region. We strive to bring the voices of these overlooked creatures to the attention of the world and draw attention to the environmental catastrophe that is occurring.
These wars should serve as a warning for us. We must pay more attention to the protection of the environment and wildlife. The future of these small creatures and their ecosystems is somehow intertwined with our future.
