Russia's actions have clearly highlighted Europe's need to increase defense spending. European leaders are increasingly recognizing their responsibility for their own security.

As tensions between Russia and European countries have reached their peak, NATO leaders have explicitly stated that Moscow's actions not only threaten Europe's security but have also clearly demonstrated the necessity of strengthening defense spending.

Security Responsibility in Our Own Hands

Mark Rutte, the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, emphasized in a meeting with German ambassadors that European countries must come to realize that the time has come to take greater responsibility for their own security. He stated: "We must seriously consider strengthening our military forces and move away from dependence on others." These remarks clearly indicate a shift in the approach of European countries in facing external threats.

Continuing Russian Threats

Wiedefeld, a German official, recently announced that Russian threats have reached our doorstep and these threats are more tangible than ever. He referred to Russia's recent attack on Leipzig Airport and said: "This is just one of many actions that demonstrate the increasing violence and aggression of Moscow against Europe and NATO."

In fact, Russia and its allies are seeking to undermine European interests and solidify their imperial claims by utilizing a global network. This situation is not only concerning but also serves as a wake-up call for European countries.

It seems that under the current circumstances, European countries must come to terms with the bitter reality that they cannot delegate their security to others and must be prepared to strengthen themselves against potential threats. This understanding, although arrived at late, could pave the way for turning threats into an opportunity for cooperation and strengthening collective security.
