Putin: The UN Security Council Needs Fundamental Changes

Vladimir Putin called for increased representation of countries from the Global South in the UN Security Council at the BRICS summit.

In a controversial and tumultuous meeting, Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, highlighted the necessity for serious reforms in the UN Security Council and global financial institutions, including the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, and the World Trade Organization. According to him, these reforms must be carried out to reflect the changing realities of the global economy.

Putin's Call for Global Changes

Putin emphasized in his speech that the representation of developing countries and the Global South in international institutions must be increased. He believes that the time has come for major powers to acknowledge the reality that today's world is moving towards multipolarity and they can no longer dominate trends and decision-making in the traditional manner.

The President of Russia also pointed out the inability of financial institutions to respond to current challenges and crises, discussing the need for structural reforms in these institutions. In his view, these institutions must be capable of providing effective and practical solutions to the economic and social problems of developing countries.

Challenges Facing the Security Council

Putin criticized the current state of the Security Council, stating that there is a need to reconsider the composition of its permanent members. According to him, major countries cannot alone make decisions for all countries, and the voices of less developed countries must also be heard.

Putin's remarks not only reflect the concerns of developing countries but also indicate Russia's desire to increase its influence on the global stage. As today's world faces serious challenges, including economic and political crises, is it really time for change in international institutions?
